It's a fantastic time to champion and celebrate the sports people who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. The article by the BBC linked below highlights the inspiring stories of LGBTQ+ athletes who have made history in their respective sports.

Those to recongise include the likes of Dutee Chand. Chand holds major sporting achievements, including being the first Indian athlete to win an 100m gold medal at a global event, as well as having provided important LGBTQ+ representation as the first openly gay athlete to ever compete for the country.

Sports inclusivity has made significant strides over recent year, as seen at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where 186 LGBTQ+ athletes participated in 34 different sports. In fact, a fictious Team LGBTQ+ would have actually ranked 11th across all nations, with 56 of the aforementioned athletes landing on the podium for their respective sports.

However, we recognized much progress remains to be made towards full LGBTQ+ sport inclusivity and we must consistently seek ways to promote equality. Here at the Concussion Toolkit, we work to prioritise gender-inclusive language in our medical advice, recognising the interconnectedness of medical and social influences. We hope our efforts contributes to the crucial task of dismantling barriers to trans provision and participation.

We're excited to support the LGBTQ+ athletes competing at the Paris Olympics this summer, encouraged by their inclusive slogan, "Games wide open," which we believe speaks directly to this community.
